A few years ago, I felt like a true failure.I was doing Weight Watchers for the third time in order to lose weight but not making progress.
At that time, I spent hours every day working out to my videos and was still overweight.I decided that there was no point in fighting it.I thought I was meant to be fat forever.I needed a change of heart and mind. That change came in the most unexpected way.It came with running.
After dinner on Thanksgiving, I went out for a walk with my family.I had turned my little MP3 player on and was enjoying the music when my favorite song came on.I felt like dancing, but that was out of the question (I had two teenagers with me).So I caught the speed a bit and started to run slowly.I was quite pleased with my burst of activity.
What was more surprising was that I got up the next morning and went out again. After running, I felt strong and calm at the same time.I recalled the good feelings I felt when I used to run 20 years ago and decided that I wanted more of that.I signed up for a spring race and practiced hard for it.
Even though my weight is still heavier than what I would like, I no longer care about it.I try to stay more focused on my life. Most importantly, my workouts are less than an hour per day and I take Sundays off completely. My goal is to keep exercising in my life but not let it take over my life. After all, I am so much more than my weight.

Now I know that we black people are much more likely to have high blood pressure and diabetes(糖尿病) than white people. And they often lead to heart attacks and other untreated diseases. For example, black people are three to four times more likely than white people to have high blood pressure and twice as likely as the white people to die of a stroke (中风).
New research has found out the surprisingly high level of salt in many black people‘s favorite meals.I stopped putting extra salt in my food at the table long ago and I try to cut down on the salt I use in cooking. The average daily level of salt for adults is 6 grams. It is easy to see that if you avoid processed foods and use salt in your cooking within limits, you won‘t exceed the daily level.
The research showed how much salt there is in some foods that we buy from restaurants and takeaways. An average salad with rice and peas has 6.2 grams of salt. This is more salt than what you are supposed to eat for the whole day.A researcher talked about the importance of home cooking rather than take-outs.At home, he pointed out, not only can you hold control of the salt shaker, but also you can create tasty food which is low in salt. The researcher later provided curry goat, rice and peas. They were low in salt, but completely delicious.
I do not suppose Jamaicans are going to stop buying takeaways soon. But if you suffer from high blood pressure, it is probably better not to buy them often.

The emotions of the athletes in the prize-awarding moments are often some of the most unforgettable images of the Olympics.Yet, a number of people have noticed some strange things.Yes, the gold medal winner is filled with pride and excitement, which is to be expected.Yet often, it seems the bronze medal winner is happier than the silver medalist. It is strange that the 3rd place contestant might be happier than someone who did better (the 2nd place). How can this be so? 'What if reasoning can help to explain this interesting effect.
In order to understand our world and our choices, we often imagine how things could have been different.A wife may ask, ' Would I be happier today if I had married someone else?' Likewise, a student may think, 'If 1 had chosen another major, maybe I would have a better shot at getting into graduate school.' In short, ' what if thinking allows us to mentally create alternative to our reality.
In the Olympics, the 'what ifs' of the winners are different.Clearly, the 'what ifs' for the gold medalist involve not being No.1—this thought makes this athlete realize how fortunate he or she is.For the bronze medalist, the 'what ifs' involve not being on the medal list at all, producing positive feelings. However, for the silver medalist, the 'what ifs' can easily make the athlete ponder how things could have been different if he or she has won the gold medal (e.g.what if I practiced harder, and what if I had not made the small error in my routine). Thus, the 'what ifs' that come to mind of the 1st and 3rd place finishers are positive, but the 2nd place finishers have a number of dissatisfying alternatives to reality that can make them feel less happy.
71.This passage is mainly about _____.
A.who the happiest among the Olympics medal winners is
B.why the prize-awarding moments are unforgettable
C.what to pay attention to when watching the Olympic Games
D.why bronze medal winners are happier than silver medalists
72.According to the passage, 'what if reasoning means ____.
A.imagining what things could have been or would be in another situation
B.making the best choice in a very difficult situation
C.doing the same thing using several different ways
D.looking forward to being in a better situation
73.The underlined word 'ponder' in paragraph 3 can be replaced by '__'.
        A.think about              B.look into               C.work on                D.worry about
74.Which of the following is the silver medalist‘s thought according to the passage?
A.I feel so fortune that I won the silver prize.
B.I feel happy for the first and third place winners.
C.It could be worse if I were not on the medal list at all.
D.The result could have been better if I had made greater efforts.
75.In which part of a newspaper would you most probably read the passage?
        A.Education               B.Family                 C.Life                   D.Psychology

[color=]第四部分写作(共两节,  满分 35  分)

第一节:阅读表达  (共5小题;每小题 2分,满分 10 分)
阅读下面短文,并按照题 目 要求用英语回答问题·(请注意问题后的词数要求)
[1] Most people say 'yes' much more readily than 'no'.
[2]A friend is moving house this weekend and would like some help, and you agree. But, what you really wanted was a couple of quiet days relaxing at home.Or a roommate spends the entire weekend playing video games and wants to borrow your homework for 'reference' .But, you‘ve just finished it after taking a whole day to work hard.
[3] Many people say 'yes' to these kinds of requests. They tend not to consider their own interests and feelings, and are often angry with themselves afterwards.
[4] Saying 'no' requires courage and considerable practice, in fact, according to psychologists.
[5] 'Everyone wants to be liked,' says Gabriele Steinki , a German psychologist.' Saying  ‘no‘ risks losing the affection of the person asking the favor or even a job.
[6] The result is that many people say 'yes' just for keeping the peace. But experts say this is regrettable.Anyone should have the right to say 'no'.
[7] In fact, rejecting can even help to strengthen a relationship because it expresses a true feeling.
[8] But, for people used to agreeing to every request, changing can be a long and uncomfortable learning process.
[9] Most people believe that ' If I say  ‘no‘ , I‘ll lose the affection of the person. But the affection is important to me'.This way of thinking can be replaced by this: 'If he only likes me because I always do what suits him, then the price of his affection is too high in the long term.
[10] Steinki says the key is talking to the other person to find a mutual(相互的) solution.'One needs to present the situation from one‘s own point of view, and to suggest how the situation can be dealt with to the advantage of both parties. The other person must have the feeling that his interests are being considered.'
[11] When the refusal is not accepted, Steinki advises giving the reasons calmly again until the person gets the message.
76.What is needed to say 'no' according to psychologists? (no more than 5 words)

77.Why do people say 'yes' much more readily than 'no' ? (no more than 12 words)

78.According to the author, what should you do if you want to refuse the other person‘s request? (no more than 10 words)

How to Relax before Exams
Many of us feel somehow nervous whenever we are taking an important exam. Nervousness not only does harm to students’ health but also disturbs our study. So it’s necessary for us students to learn to relax. I think it’s very important to have a right attitude towards exams. Exams are only a means of checking what we have learned. Therefore, there is no need to worry too much about the results of the exams. Before an exam making a scientific study plan and keeping a peaceful mind can help to reduce the pressure from the exams. We can also relax ourselves by doing sports and listening to music. Besides, enough sleep and a balanced diet will work as well.
Follow my advice and you will enjoy your school life.
